World Trader of the Year

The WMWTA recognizes that international trade is a vital ingredient for this area’s business growth and economic stability. Annually we recognize a business, academic (individual or institution) or organization and an individual that has contributed to the growth of world trade in this region.

Gordon Food Service : 2018 WMWTA World Trader of the Year

GRAND RAPIDS, April 23, 2018 – The West Michigan World Trade Association (WMWTA) is excited to recognize foodservice distributor, Gordon Food Service, as its 2018 World Trader of the Year. On Thursday, May 10 Gordon Food Service will be honored at a dinner ceremony at the Watermark Country Club in Cascade. The WMWTA will present this award in conjunction with the 33nd annual World Trade Week, hosted by the GVSU Seidman College of Business.

Companies, organizations, and individuals having a presence in West Michigan and demonstrating a strong commitment to the global marketplace are eligible for the award, which the WMWTA has given every year since 1977. Gordon Food Service will join a long and distinguished line of recipients that include Founders Brewing Co., Mol Belting Systems, Bulman Products Inc., Skytron LLC, GNS, Steelcase, SoundOff Signal, Meijer, X-Rite, Amway and many more.

Founded in 1897, Gordon Food Service is a fifth-generation family business. Today, after more than 120 years of operation, the company is the largest privately held, family managed foodservice distributor in North America.

In 2018, the company's export business will offer more than 10,000 items to international customers and generate significant sales with the following export customers: wholesale distributors, major cruise lines, and all-inclusive resorts/hotels. In addition, the company imports a wide variety of products from around the world directly through the company's import subsidiary and indirectly through a number of suppliers. Gordon Food Service is committed to bringing innovative products to customers while remaining focused on the highest quality and standards.
